What can I say about Eyeries? It is such a breath of fresh air and sunshine to visit, a beautiful, colourful town away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It overlooks Coulagh Bay and the mouth of the Kenmare River.
I love walking around Eyeries; the area offers so much beauty,and the people are truly friendly. The villagers are proud of their community as the pictures plainly show. (As you can tell, the pictures were taken on a Sunday…the streets were oh-so-quiet)
The movies “Falling for a Dancer” and “The Purple Taxi” were filmed here. It’s interesting to note that the houses were all painted gray for the Falling for a Dancer film. After the movie had finished shooting the village homes were re-painted in bright colours.
It’s like a jewel or candy box, isn’t it?
I couldn’t resist taking a picture of a couple of little donkeys in a nearby field. They even seemed to be smiling today.
If you need to de-stress, Eyeries is definitely a place that can lighten the heart.

That colorful corridor reminds me of Caminito Street in the neighbourhood of La Boca in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Susanne, Thank you for the St. Finnian’s Well narrative, loved it. I lived on the Beara (at Dawros Church/Bridge, near Dromachtai) in 2002 and am returning to attend a Kenmare wedding. I will have a rental car and would very much appreciate a suggestion for an interesting, less known arhaelogical site on the penninsula that I may have missed in 02.
